MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING

CITY COMMISSION-CITY HALL

January 24, 2000

7:00 p.m.

Mayor Vencion opened the meeting; City Mgr. Lay gave the invocation.

Comm. Ray made the motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting as received, seconded by Vice-Mayor Jones, voted unanimous.

CITIZENS TO ADDRESS COMMISSION John Covey with Waynesboro Apparel came before the Commission about scheduling a meeting about the lease.  The Industrial Committee decided to meet Wednesday at 9:00 a.m.

DEPARTMENT REPORTS Gilbert stated they had made a couple of gas connections, were still working on the water line for Aubrey Melson and also are working on gas leaks.

City Mgr. Lay told the Commission the tractor and mower had been delivered last week.  Vice-Mayor Jones ask about the delivery of the truck.  City Mgr. Lay stated it should be here next month.

Dean Harrison gave the Commission an update on the Water Plant.  He stated they had shot all the rock and would be excavating today.  He also stated the Water Plant had already switched over to liquid chlorine.

Vice-Mayor Jones ask about building an office at the Water Plant.  City Mgr. Lay stated he had checked and the materials to build this office would be approximately $5,000 to $6,000.  This is with CCA labor.

OPEN ITEMS: City Mgr. Lay stated Taylor Harris had called him about Dixie Youth playing at the Sportsplex.

City Mgr. Lay stated we have been offered the opportunity to get a local radio station coverage in case of emergencies.  He explained further.

Some discussion was had with the Commission wanting Attorney Gray to look at the lease first before any decision is made.

Mayor Vencion ask who was going to attend the meeting with T.V.E.C. in Savannah Thursday.  The decision was Comm. White and Mayor Vencion.

Mayor Vencion updated the Commission about the incident at Waynesboro Elementary School involving Officer Moser.  He stated Officer Moser handled himself very well and he wanted to commend him.

There being no further business to come before the Commission, the motion was made by Comm. White to adjourn and seconded by Vice-Mayor Jones.  Said meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
