MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING

CITY COMMISSION-CITY HALL

March 26, 2001 7:00 p.m.

 

Mayor Ray opened the meeting; City Mgr. Lay gave the invocation.

 

Comm. Jones made the motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting as received, seconded by Vice-Mayor Creasy.  Said motion was voted unanimous.

 

CITIZENS TO ADDRESS COMMISSION

 

John and Sherry McDonald came before the Commission stating they were interested in an Industrial building.

 

City Mgr. Lay stated 2 other people concerning small industries had approached him.  He explained further.

 

DEPARTMENT REPORTS

 

Gilbert stated that Richard Wilson on Culp Street wanted a water connection.  This was o.k. with the Commission.

 

Doug Gobbell ask about plans on fire hall.  City Mgr. Lay stated they were ready to get bids on a 80x200 building.

 

 Mayor Ray ask about the Sportsplex.  City Mgr. Lay explained.

 

6A)  RECREATION GRANT RESOLUTION

 

City Mgr. Lay ask about submitting a grant request.  He gave each Commissioner a price list of finishing park with a 400-meter track and soccer fields.  He explained further.

 

Vice-Mayor Creasy made the motion to pass the Resolution, seconded by Comm. White, voted unanimous.

 

OPEN ITEMS

 

Vice-Mayor Creasy ask about the backhoe in creek at Town Bridge.  City Mgr. Lay stated he had talked with the Core of Engineers about this, he explained his conservation with them.  The Consensus of the Commission was to stop people from being in the creek with backhoes.

 

Gilbert told the Commission that T.V.E.C. hit the gas line Tuesday when they were repairing the poles done from a wreck on Hwy. 99.

 

Comm. Vencion stated Cindy Risner had ask about guardrails on curve at her house on Matthew Street.  City Mgr. Lay to check this out.

 

Comm. Vencion stated we needed a sign at Sportsplex and also needs a bigger flagpole and flag.

 

Comm. Vencion ask if the results were in on the concrete at Water Plant.  City Mgr. Lay explained.

 

Comm. Vencion stated he had some complaints on the Wildcat’s Den since it has reopened.

 

Mayor Ray stated we needed a new City Park sign.

 

Mayor Ray stated he had received a letter from Bob Clement asking for an investigation on the Natural Gas pricing.

 

City Mgr. Lay had given the Commission some information on a school in July he would like to attend.  This school is for 2 weeks and expensive.  Some discussion was had with the Commission having concerns about City Mgr. Lay being gone for 2 weeks, cost and etc.

 

There being no further business the motion to adjourn was made by Comm. White and seconded by Comm. Jones.  Said meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
