City Commission Minutes

April 24, 2000

7:00 p.m.

Mayor Ray opened the meeting; City Mgr. Lay gave the invocation.

Comm. Jones made the motion to approve the minutes of the regular meeting as received, seconded by Comm. White, voted unanimous.

DEPARTMENT REPORTS Gilbert told the Commission that his crew has been doing routing work and will start reading meters tomorrow.

Mike Thomasson told the Commission that the first wall bore had been made last Tuesday at the Water Plant.  He explained the problems with the valves and a way to save the City about $700.00.

City Mgr. Lay stated the mower for the Sportsplex has been purchased and is in operation.

OPEN ITEMS: Comm. Jones ask when we were to start picking up brush.  City Mgr. Lay explained that we were behind due to not having any prisoners and the weather.  Should be able to start tomorrow.

Comm. Jones stated James Edwards had spoken to him about the ditch line on Water Tank Hill.  City Mgr. Lay stated we had fixed this once but he would check this again.

Comm. Jones stated he would like to be able to start on the budget next meeting.

Comm. White ask if the City had a dogcatcher.  City Mgr. Lay stated yes.

Comm. White ask about paving the parking lot at City Park.  City Mgr. Lay stated this was just a rumor.

Vice-Mayor Creasy ask about practicing at the Sportsplex.  Some discussion was had.

Comm. Vencion ask if City Mgr. Lay had a chance to talk with Bill Baxter yet.  City Mgr. Lay stated no.

Comm. Vencion ask about guardrails at Sportsplex.  City Mgr. Lay stated the contract has been let.

Comm. Jones ask about the Fire Truck at Wilson’s Body Shop.  Some discussion was had.

Comm. Vencion stated the fire hydrants need flushing.

Comm. Vencion stated the parking area behind Mr. Gray’s office needs to be marked off for parking spaces.

Comm. Vencion ask if the new truck was in yet?  City Mgr. Lay stated no.

Comm. Vencion ask when the paving would begin.  City Mgr. Lay stated around July.

Mayor Ray told the Commission the City had been presented with a tree for earth day from the Department of Soil Conservation.  This tree has since been planted at the Sportsplex.

Mike Thomasson stated he had checked the sewer line for the new school system and everything is ok.  He stated when the water line was finished he would test it.

City Mgr. Lay stated the Rural Development listening tour will be held at Columbia State in Clifton Friday, April 28, 2000.

Comm. Vencion ask about the lawsuit on Ms. Lona Carr.  City Mgr. Lay stated he hasn’t heard anything.

City Mgr. Lay gave the Commission an update on the Carol Sue Cole lawsuit.

There being no further business to come before the Commission, Commissioner White made the motion to adjourn and seconded by Comm. Jones.  Said meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
