MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING

CITY COMMISSION-CITY HALL

April 9, 2001 7:00 p.m.

 

Vice-Mayor Creasy opened the meeting in the absence of Mayor Ray.  City Mgr. Lay gave the invocation.

Comm. Jones made the motion to approve the minutes of the regular meeting as received, seconded by Comm. Vencion.  Said motion was voted unanimous.

DEPARTMENT REPORTS

Gilbert told the Commission he had an application for a water connection on Herbert Gallian Drive for Robert Bunch.  This was o.k. by the Commission.

Gilbert told the Commission that we needed a plan on welding procedures for Natural Gas.  He stated he had a copy of Hohenwald’s plan that the state said we could adopt.

Comm. Vencion made the motion to adopt the Welding Procedures Plan as presented, seconded by Comm. Jones.  Said motion was voted unanimous.

City Mgr. Lay stated we had a good turn out for the Easter Egg Hunt in the park this past weekend.  He stated the next event would be the Lady Cat Celebration on April 21st.

City Mgr. Lay told the Commission Jeff Mathis had been placed in the SRO position at the school and Mark Staggs had been hired to fill his slot with the Police Department.

City Mgr. Lay stated Gerald Baer had 3 more weeks to left at the academy and is doing well.

City Mgr. Lay told the Commission that there was a new Federal Grant out for fire departments.  He explained it was a 90-10 grant and Joe Evans with South Central was doing the paper work for us.  This to be in by May 2nd.

6)     INDUSTRIAL BUILDING DISCUSSION

City Mgr. Lay told the Commission the building material they went to

Look at last Saturday was junk.  He stated he had a gentleman talk with him today that is still interested in a building but there was still some questions he needed answered.

After a lengthy discussion City Mgr. Lay to check out pricing for buildings.

OPEN ITEMS:

Comm. Jones stated the Texas Boot building needs some repairs made it is looking ragged.

Comm. Jones stated he had talked with Mr. and Mrs. George Jones about purchasing some of their land for wells.  He stated they may give one site and might be interested in selling the whole property if the City gave them a life time estate.

Comm. Vencion ask City Mgr. Lay if he has heard anything from residents on Hwy. 13 South about Public Hearing on annexation.  City Mgr. Lay stated no.

Comm. Vencion stated it was a mess on McWilliams Street where T.V.E.C. had cut down trees.

Comm. Vencion ask if City Mgr. Lay had thought any more about the guard rails on Matthews Street.

Comm. Vencion ask the progress on the Water Plant.  City Mgr. Lay explained that Mike Duncan has finally been paid.  He also explained the delay on the rest of problems.

Vice-Mayor Creasy stated the grass at the City Park needs mowing.

There being no further business to come before the Commission, the motion was made by Comm. Vencion to adjourn and seconded by Comm. Jones.  Said meeting adjourned at 8:27 p.m.
