MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING

CITY COMMISSION-CITY HALL

May 8, 2000

7:00 p.m.

In the absence of Mayor Ray, Vice-Mayor Creasy opened the meeting; City Mgr. Lay gave the invocation.

Comm. Jones made the motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting as received, seconded by Comm. Vencion, voted unanimous.

DEPARTMENT REPORTS: Gilbert stated they had been doing routing work and also trying to get caught up on the mowing.  He also stated they had marked off the parking places in the lot behind Atty. Gray’s office.

City Mgr. Lay told the Commission they had been having several ballgames at the Sportsplex.

Comm. Jones ask about the portable fences.  City Mgr. Lay stated they were in and John Swearengin had showed them how to put them together.

City Mgr. Lay stated he had ordered timber ties to outline the parking lot at Sportsplex.

Comm. Jones ask about the stone at Sportsplex.  City Mgr. Lay stated this was to cover the drain lines for the soccer fields.

City Mgr. Lay told the Commission that some of the street signs have come in and also we are changing out some of the water meters.

Comm. Vencion ask about the mowing on Hwy. 64 West.  Gilbert stated they should be in that area tomorrow.

Comm. Vencion stated on Hwy. 13 South close to the Sportsplex needed to be marked no passing zone.  It was decided that we need to check with the State about this.

City Mgr. Lay gave an update on the pool.  Have started lifeguard training and doing some painting.  The pool will be open for business on Memorial Day.

6A)  JIM BIGGERS WATER Jim Biggers stated EPA had written the church a letter stating something needed to be done soon concerning their water.

A lot of discussion was had again about this.  Comm. Jones suggested getting a new study on this and wait until all Commissioners are present before making a decision.  City Mgr. Lay to re-do analysis and bring back before the Commission.

6B)  ELAINE MATNEY PROPERTY City Mgr. Lay stated Elaine Matney had approached him to see if the City was interested in buying her property the City uses for July 4th. parking.  This was tabled until all Commissioners are present.

6C)  TCRS ADJUSTMENT This was tabled until all Commissioners are present.

OPEN ITEMS: City Mgr. Lay stated he had an application for water from Herschel Long.  This was o.k. with the Commission.

Comm. Jones ask about the light poles on the square.  City Mgr. Lay stated all he had to do was decide on type of lights.

Comm. Jones stated the City needed to answer the letter to the editor in the newspaper about the Sportsplex.  Some discussion was had.

Terry Thompson, Dixie Youth President, ask about the concession stand.  Some discussion was had concerning the umpires.  He stated at the City Park they give the umpires something to drink between games.

There being no further business to come before the Commission, the motion was made by Comm. Vencion to adjourn and seconded by Comm. Jones.  Said meeting adjourned at 8:23 p.m.
