MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
CITY COMMISSION-CITY HALL
7:00 p.m.
Mayor Ray
opened the meeting; City Mgr. Lay gave the invocation.
Comm. Vencion
made the motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting as received,
seconded by Vice-Mayor Creasy, voted unanimous.
DEPARTMENT
REPORTS
Gilbert also
stated several of his men were attending Seminars on Natural Gas, he explained
further.
City Mgr. Lay
stated they were still replacing filters at the Water Plant. Deadline for
completion of the Water Plant project is July 5, 2000.
Comm. Jones ask
if the right of ways have been cut on Forrest Hills.
Mayor Ray ask
about the City’s new truck. City Mgr. Lay explained they were having trouble
finding this truck. The Commission felt that if it wasn’t here go ahead and
cancel order and purchase with Neil Sandler whom can also get the state
contract.
OPEN ITEMS:
Comm. Vencion
made the motion, seconded by Comm. Jones to give Waynesboro Apparel a 90-day
notice to evacuate the building, voted unanimous.
Comm. Jones ask
about the Haggard Building. City Mgr. Lay told the Commission that Mr. Minor
has received his loans and that his business is starting to pick up.
Comm. Jones ask
about budget and sales tax.
Comm. Vencion
stated he would like to get started on the 3 star community.
Comm. Vencion
ask if the City had the Police Officer that left our employment under contract.
City Mgr. Lay stated no.
City Mgr. Lay
stated the fire works show for July 4, 2000 would cost approximately $4,500. He
stated the City or a sponsor would have to pay $2,000 and Coke would pay
$2,500. He stated the display would be July 1st. and that he needs a
location for this event.
City Mgr. Lay
stated Gilda Collie had called him concerning an Industry interested in coming
to Waynesboro. This manufacturing plant makes screws. City Mgr. Lay to
contact Mr. Gum.
City Mgr. Lay
stated he had been ask to get a Mutual Aid agreement with Multi County 22nd.
Judicial Task Force. He explained further.
Comm. Jones ask
who would be held liable? More discussion was had with the decision to let
Attorney Gray look over the agreement before the Commission makes a decision.
City Mgr. Lay
told the Commission he would like to hire a seasonal worker to help the Parks
Director. He stated he had some monies left in the budget to pay for this help.
There being no
further business to come before the Commission the motion was made by Comm.
Vencion to adjourn and seconded by Comm. White. Said meeting adjourned at 8:10
p.m.
