WAYNESBORO, Tenn. -- A Wayne County man has been charged for endangerment of a child after drugs were found in his residence, officials said.

Waynesboro Police Chief Keith Reeves said Rocky Jones, 26, Apt. E-137, Village Apartments, Waynesboro, was charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school zone as well as reckless endangerment of a child and forgery.

Reeves said his officer received information Thursday from someone worried about the safety and welfare of three children living inside Jones' apartment, where apparently drugs and drug paraphernalia were kept.

The chief said officer Amy Moore along with sheriff's deputies went to Jones' apartment to investigate the complaint.

"When they arrived, they spoke with Jones and while he was trying to prove to the officers that he didn't have anything illegal, he accidentally lifted his shirt and a small plastic bag was spotted in the waistband of his pants,'' Reeves said. "The baggie had four separate bags of meth.''

Reeves said officers found 15.7 grams of meth, with a street value of $1,500.

The chief said Jones lived within 1,000 feet of
Waynesboro Elementary School.

"He was charged on reckless endangerment of a child because of the children that were living there,'' Reeves said.

Investigators said Jones was living with a woman and her three children.

Reeves said Jones is also accused of trying to pass a forged check at a local business.

Jones is being held in the Wayne County Jail on bail totaling $102,500.
