CURRENT
PROJECTS
Water
Plant Improvement (80% Complete)
Water Quality is a top priority with the City of Waynesboro. In order to
continue to provide high quality water from the tap, the Waynesboro Water
Filtration Plant has been going through an upgrade.
A new treatment basin is
being constructed that will allow the raw water take from Green River to be
treated making it's Crystal Clear". In addition, the filter beds have been
completely replaced so that even the tiniest of dirt particles will be
removed. Additionally, a new office for the water plant employees has been
constructed to improve their working environment.
Sewer Line
Repair Mandate (60% Complete)
When it rains it pours... through the sewer system. Ground water
and surface water enter the sanitary sewer system whenever we have a rain.
This water enters old cracked clay tiles, open sewer clean outs and other
open drains. In fact, so much water enters during a major rain that the
sewer main lines rear the plant cannot hold it and the raw sewer will exit
at low lying manholes. The City is actively trying to eliminate this by
mandating that all sewer service lines be smoke tested. Those that show
smoke seeping to the top of the ground must be repaired or replaced at the
property owners expense.
Water
Meter Change out (100% Complete)
Pay your fair share. Did you know that some water meters in the City
have been there for thirty to forty years and have had millions of gallons
go through them. We know and in fact, 150 were identified as having one
million gallons or more on the register. These are being replaced since a
water meter has a tendency to slow down the older it gets. The projected
revenue loss is fifteen percent (15%). By replacing those meters and gaining
the additional revenue from an accurate water measurement water rate
increases can be put off longer.
WATER PLANT
The
City of Waynesboro Water Plant is located at 625 Green River Drive on the banks
if beautiful Green River. The water plant is capable of producing 864 thousand
gallons of water daily.
The water plant uses flocculation sedimentation,
filtration and disinfection in its treatment process.
Finished water is of high quality with a finished
water turbidity average if .03 , a ph average of 7.2 and daily and monthly
bacteriological samples show the water to be of exceptional quality. Since 2002
the water production has been under the direction of Annie Chiodo (pictured
left), a state Certified Operator. State Health Department inspections regularly
inspect the water production facilities. Since 1994 all inspections have netted
the City of Waynesboro Water System grades that remain in the high 90's. Our
Consumer Confidence Report in displayed on this web site at City Hall and the
Waynesboro Public Library. Questions about our water system please call us at
931-722-5593.
